Virtual Reality Game and Booth at hobit 2020 for the Technical University of Darmstadt

Task

The Bologna reform and falling birth rate have created a constant competition between universities, which calls for increasingly effective marketing measures.

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology (etit) also wants to actively increase the number of first-year students and get them excited about their studies. For example at hobit, Germany's largest non-commercial university and career fair.

Every year, it attracts around 20,000 students and school leavers who are still looking for the right subject and asking themselves: "Where do my talents lie? And at which university and in which course of study can I best develop my talents?"

Solution

Our university marketing concept uses the latest technology - namely virtual reality - to target the playful skills of young trade fair visitors.

Especially for the etit, DIE NEUDENKER® developed a VR game, in which the students gamble through the virtual etit world and discover the 4 study subjects - electrical and information technology, medical technology, mechatronics and information system technology.

The key visual makes use of the visual language of current youth culture: It shows young students with wings in tattoo style, which unfold in etit studies to advance our future with innovations.

Our interactive booth with its eye-catching design turned out to be a real eye-catcher and crowd puller at hobit. The practical relevance is also given, because in the teaching and research offer of etit VR technology is already an integral part of it. For example, in virtual operating theatres in medical technology, flight simulation, for the development of wind power plants or even in automotive development.

A look into the VR-Game

5 minutes - the player has no more time to explore the mystical VR world and collect all hidden exhibits. The exhibits are taken from the everyday practice of the 4 etit study courses and show the player which technical achievements he will explore and develop during his studies.

Those who discover all the exhibits in time will be rewarded with butterfly wings - a symbol of the personal development that awaits the player in his new phase of life as an etit student.

"How cool is that!"

To be seen in our event video: Josephine and Malte report about the hobit and the interactive booth, which we realized for the department etit of the Technische Universität Darmstadt.
