DIE NEUDENKER® Make Motion Design, Explainer Videos & 3D Animation

Interview with motion designer and NEUDENKER Alexander

How can complex topics be presented in an impressive and appealing way? We find: With explainer videos! DIE NEUDENKER® develop websites in classic or hip design and deliver exciting content - now also moving images.

Hi, my name is Josephine, I am NEUDENKERIN and I met my colleague Alexander for an interview. Alex does motion design and tells you how you can spread your personal message or your project in digital media with a video.

Josie: Howdie Alex, tell me, what do you do as a motion designer? What does that mean anyway?

Alex: Motion design involves the creation of movement - in the form of video animation. As a motion designer I want to tell stories. A single movement can already decide whether a simple square falls clumsily across the stage or elegantly wins the scene over. Often a graphic form language is enough to bring the product or brand to life. For me personally, motion design is like a good espresso: the order comes in, off through the creative filter. Et voilà: A short, entertaining wake-up call for the target group.

Josie: That's cool *laughs*. How did you actually get into animation?

Alex: I love animated films. I was fascinated by the many characters and the various role distributions. In the countless pictures I drew and painted, I didn't just want to capture a specific moment, but brought the scenes to life in my imagination.

Josie: What do you see as the special strength of moving images?

Alex: Complex topics can be presented in a sympathetic way within a few moments and thus remain more likely to be remembered.

Josie: How does DIE NEUDENKER® proceed with such a project?

Alex: We get the input in a conversation with the customer, i.e. goals and target group. The whole thing is then chased through the conceptual filter and reduced to the essential information. We sit down at the storyboard and work out the graphics. If everything is right, I can start with the animation. Finally, I mix suitable sound effects and music, and the clip can be distributed. In short: Conception > creation > production > finalization > publishing.

Josie: All right. Your thesis at university was an explainer video for the German Red Cross in which you called for blood donations. Your first project at DIE NEUDENKER is also an explainer video: "BeST - Accelerated Software Technology" illustrates the method of our customer Accso, a specialist for accelerated IT solutions in Darmstadt. Both take place in a graphical world of images. What is the difference between the two animated films?

Alex: One is mainly red, the other green *laughs*. No, joking aside... The blood donation clip is meant to draw attention to something, it's a call that at best should lead the viewer to the next blood donation site or at least make him/her think about it.

The "BeST" clip is designed to explain a software principle. It is part of the Accso website and thus part of a digital experience and brand. The video thus completes a complete package. The tonality of the two clips also differs: In one, the emotional level is the carrier, in the other, the focus is on objectivity.

Josie: What project are you currently working on?

Alex: Currently I am working on different projects. I don't want to give too much away. Just this much: Among them are an orchestra that accompanies optimized ordering processes, heads from which creativity bubbles up and devices that move as if by magic.

Josie: Why should I commission an animated video from NEUDENKERN?

Alex: We can serve a broad field for moving images: Be it 2D animation, 3D animation or even 3D modelling. There are also many possibilities in terms of content. A video can be factual or entertaining, abstract or playful... just as it benefits our client's project. Does he want to present his topic in a subject-specific way or simply entertain and put a smile on the face of the desired audience?

Josie: And your favorite animation trick?

Alex: Lots of splashes of course! * laughs * ...

Josie: Ha ha, what's that?

Alex: Like sparks to amplify a single movement of an animation. But that wasn't meant to be serious. The most reliable trick is to watch my environment closely and bring the collected characters and interactions in my animation to life. *wink*

Josie: Thank you for the animating conversation, Alex =)
